Big Enough Girl

OCAD University Thesis 2019

Every child with a learning disability is incredibly intelligent, but they may never realize their potential without the support and help needed to grow and flourish. Especially if the adults charged with their well-being think and say otherwise. Big Enough Girl is a 2D animation drawn and produced by Mary-Rose Little, a disabled artist from northern Ontario. The work tackles themes of institutional ignorance, isolation, and discrimination when it comes to the needs of students with disabilities. By matching her own story with her hand-drawn visuals, she hopes to invite others to share their own stories and change the way schools teach those who struggle to learn in the traditional sense. Although the educational system has come a long way since the time Little was in elementary school, disparity still exists. No child should have to fight for the right to learn.
